How to select the ideal wedding photographer
We love weddings. They are full of smiles and colours and emotions. But wait! What about the wedding to-do list? Let’s go over the checklist, shall we? You have your bridal trousseau ready, you have decided the venue, the guest list has been finalized but there’s one crucial task yet to be accomplished. What about the wedding photographer? How to choose a photographer who will capture those special moments perfectly?
Earlier the better
Planning a wedding and working on its deets can be exhausting, we know. But girls, you cannot afford to procrastinate when it comes to choosing your wedding photographer. It cannot be a capricious move. Start off your search a good couple of months before your wedding date if you’re getting hitched in the ‘wedding season’.
Research is indispensable
Every photographer has his/her own style when it comes to capturing moments. Make sure that you go through the photographer’s past work before making your decision. It’s best to select a photographer whose style complements yours!
Communication is key
Make it a point to meet the photographer in person at least once before your big day. Tell them exactly you expect from them. You can even show them a bunch of wedding photos that you really liked to elucidate your expectations.
Enquire about the packages they offer. It is essential for you to have an idea about the number of photo and albums that you want from them. Keeping things unambiguous will make it easier for you to draft out the photography budget. “Wedding is a grand affair and money should be invested more cautiously,” notes photographer Sumit Sahni, founder at Sumit Productions, “But we cannot neglect the wedding photography budget. It should be according to the market rates as well to get a list of best photographers in your hand. Choices are very important.”
Being comfortable is crucial
Do you like the photographer and their way of working? Are you comfortable having them around you? “The wedding photographer should know how to make the couple comfortable in front of the camera. The photographer should be smart enough to capture the best moments in the smoothest way without troubling the couple much,” says Sahni.
“The photographer is required to be punctual and always be present on the location according to scheduled functions,” shares Sahni. Him or her missing out on taking some of the important moments is a no-no! Ensure you inform about all the festivities and their timings.
The three questions that you must ask your photographer at any cost: How soon can I get the photographs? What about the rights? (Who will have the rights over the photographs?) What about editing? It is essential to have clarity on these subjects. Talk to your photographer about how you’d want your photos to be edited. Work out the composition details. Ensure that you get high-resolution images.
